10 Ways I Do Medium

A few brutally honest personal notes

Point one: When I set aside time to read on Medium, I always go to my notifications first. If anyone has clapped, highlighted, shared, tagged, followed me, or responded to one of my posts, I immediately go read one of theirs, clap, and comment — and if appropriate, share. I also give the maximum amount of claps for every story I appreciate — 50 claps. It’s easy, you just hold your finger or mouse over the clap button. Medium is the kind of platform where you have to have the attitude of “You scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours.” Members of the Partnership Program have to support eachother. That’s the only way we earn outside of referred subscribers and the new tipping feature. (I’d love to know if anyone has earned anything from that). I do occasionally read from my home page, but I usually only have the time to respond to people who have responded to me.

Point two: I only follow people who have published content. I never follow anyone who has a blank page or only lists of articles from other writers. Most of the people who follow me are like-minded and share similar ideas. If someone starts posting something that doesn’t resonate with me, I’m likely to unfollow for a few reasons. First, I’m not terribly interested in seeing those articles in my feed. Second, I know there are a lot of people who will check my followers…
